JR East Kururi Line
East Japan Railway revealed on November 27, 2024 that it is exploring the possibility of discontinuing train operations on a local line in Chiba Prefecture due to a significant drop in ridership.
The company indicated plans to consult with local governments regarding the potential cessation of operations on the 9.6-kilometer section between Kururi and Kazusa-Kameyama stations on the Kururi Line.
As an alternative, bus services connecting key locations such as hospitals, high schools, and tourist attractions are being proposed for the route.
Should JR East proceed with ending this train service, which has been in operation for approximately 90 years, it would mark the company’s first such decision unrelated to natural disaster-induced suspensions.
