The Enoden — A Railway Woven into Everyday Life

The Enoshima Electric Railway, affectionately known as the Enoden, has connected the coastal communities between Fujisawa and Kamakura for more than a century.
Despite its modest length of just 10 kilometers, the line has become one of Japan’s most recognizable local railways, running through narrow streets, seaside neighborhoods, and historic temple towns.

What makes the Enoden unique is its continuity across generations. Modern low-floor cars operate alongside classic rolling stock preserved in their original colors, while memories of childhood journeys remain closely tied to the railway itself.

The photographs presented here span several decades, capturing both the enduring character of the Enoden and a personal connection that has lasted since childhood.
