Farewell to the Ueno Zoo Monorail
The Ueno Zoo Monorail suspended service indefinitely on the 31st October 2019. Japan’s 1st monorail and the world’s first monorail within a zoo, it opened for service in late 1957.The 300 metre long line operated only while the zoo was open and while similar in design to the Wuppertal Schwebebahn in Germany, it operated on rubber tyres. This month we farewell the line with a selection of shots from Oliver Mayer, taken 9th June 2019.
