Kurobe Gorge Railway — Reopening the Route through the Gorge

The Kurobe Gorge Railway in Toyama Prefecture resumed service between Nekomata and Keyakidaira on October 2nd, 2026. This section had been closed since the 2024 Noto Peninsula Earthquake.

At the same time, public access was extended beyond Keyakidaira towards Kurobe Dam via the Kurobe-Unazuki Canyon Route, connecting with the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route. Travel on the Canyon Route must be booked in advance through a travel agency, while regular tickets for travel as far as Keyakidaira can be purchased in the usual way at the ticket counter at Unazuki Station.

The following photographs capture trains on the Kurobe Gorge Railway shortly before the reopening of the full route to Keyakidaira.
