JNR Era DMU’s

This month we take a look at a selection of DMU’s built for the Japan National Railways.

KiHa 48 6502, a former JR Tōkai car, in retro livery heads a four car train at Iseshi before departure for Kameyama via the Sangū and Kisei Lines. 21st July 2014.


KiHa 41 2001, with cab conversion at the other end, awaits an early afternoon departure at Kinosaki Onsen in Hyōgo Prefecture. It is bound for Hamasaka via the San-In Line. 19th August 2020


KiHa 28 3019 is preserved next to the historic Red Brick Warehouse in Tsuruga in Fukui Prefecture. Built as KiHa 28 1019 in 1968, it became KiHa 28 3019 when air-conditioning was fitted in 1976. It was based at Fukuchiyama and Toyooka before withdrawal in 2000. 20th August 2020
