Hankai Tramway

The Hankai Tramway is Osaka’s only streetcar line, affectionately nicknamed “Chinden” (meaning “bell car”), which connects Osaka city and Sakai city. It has a rich history, operating some of Japan’s oldest trams, including vintage models and modern, air-conditioned ones. The tram is a leisurely and environmentally friendly way for both locals and tourists to access landmarks and explore neighborhoods off the typical tourist path.

Hankai Tramway has two connected lines, the Hankai and Uemachi lines. Three generation of tram cars are in operation.
