From the vault – this month we take a look at scenes that were common place until very recently but are now gone forever.


A 201 series set arriving at Shin-Kiba on the Keiyō Line during a typical rainy season downpour on 29/06/2008.
These units were retired from service in June 2011.


A 209-0 series set awaits departure from Shinagawa bound for Ōfuna on the balmy evening of 15/09/2008.
These units were removed from Keihin-Tōhoku/Negishi Line service in January 2010. A number have survived and
now operate in the Chiba area.


A 485-3000 series operating the Ltd Express “Hakuchō” arriving at Misawa while en-route to Hachinohe on 21/11/2010.
These units now no longer operate regularly south of Aomori following the completion of the Tōhoku Shinkansen to Shin-Aomori.
