A Joban Line E231 series EMU rounds the curve to pass underneath the Keisei Railway just after Nippori station in Tokyo with a local service to Toride. The tracks behind the train are the Yamanote and Keihin-Tohoku Lines.

Two units of cog-wheel equipped banker engines are pushing up a mini train on the rack-rail section of the Oigawa Railway Ikawa Line. This 9% gradient is the steepest rail route in Japan. Just in front of the bankers is the main engine of the train. An auxiliary engine is seen at the middle of the formation. Please not that this train is formed of 2 push-pull rakes and is double the normal length used on this route.
